What we'll do
Details
Join Austin Sierra Club on a service trip to the incomparable Yosemite National Park (http://www.nps.gov/yose/index.htm). Yosemite is known for its granite towers, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient sequoias, and vast wilderness areas. Actual work days will be May 14-18 from 9 am - 3 pm with Wednesday off (some days the work is completed early). The rest of the time will be spent exploring the park. The trip starts at the Oakland airport, where we load up & head to Yosemite. The National Park Service has provided us a campsite in the Yellow Pines volunteer campground. Getting a campsite in Yosemite Valley this time of year is almost impossible. Waterfalls should be SPECTACULAR!

Participants must provide all personal camping gear, which should be as compact as possible. We will provide cooking equipment, except for your mess kit. Most breakfasts & lunches will be provided in camp. All participants are included in meal prep and cleanup and a duty roster will be created. Bring your lunch for the two Saturday travel days, or bring cash to dine out. Dinners will be in Half Dome Village at your expense, or you can cook in camp individually. Showers in Half Dome Village are usually free for volunteers. Included in the trip are all accommodations, ground transportation, park fees & most breakfasts & lunches. Airfare is separate at your expense.

Flight info: Outbound on 5/12 Southwest flight 4572, departing Austin at 7:05 am and arriving in Las Vegas at 8:05 am. Then in Las Vegas, Flight 4870 departing at 9:15 am and arriving in Oakland at 10:45 am. An alternative flight that is cheaper is Southwest Airlines flight 3844 departing Austin at 7:20 am and arriving in Phoenix at 7:55 am. Change planes for flight 4558 which departs Phoenix at 8:45 am and arrives in Oakland at 10:50 am. As on 2/9/2018, this flight is $164 while the first flight is $214.
We return on 5/19 on Southwest Flight 6176, departing Oakland at 3pm and arriving in Las Vegas at 4:25 pm. We take flight 4211 departing Las Vegas at 5:40pm and arriving in Austin at 10:15 pm. RSVP on meetup does not secure your spot. All participants must be healthy, physically capable to perform service work (manual labor such as trail building), & email proof of booked SW flight to be accepted. Priority given to dues-paying Sierra Club members and those who have participated in prior service projects. Failure to show booked flight within 48 hours of RSVP on Meetup will result in RSVP removal.

To be accepted on the trip: Participants must send Liability Waiver (http://files.meetup.com/1589422/individual_waiver.pdf), Medical Form (http://files.meetup.com/1589422/Sierra%20Club%20medical%20form%202013.pdf), and check for $350 ($375 for non-members) payable to "Sierra Club - Austin" to leader. For mailing address, contact Wesley Smith at [masked] and these must be received no later than 5 business days from RSVP, or your position will be cancelled.
We will have a pre-trip meeting at Central Market North Lamar in April. Refund policy: Once accepted on the trip, 80% refund can be made until April 1. 50% refund can be made until April 15. After April 15 no refunds can be made.
