Hair grabs from the back, the side, and the top are often the first offense in a violent confrontation. Being pushed is a common way for assailants to get victims from Crime Scene 1 to Crime Scene 2.

Strangulation is a potentially deadly attack that is surprisingly easy to escape. In this week's class, we'll practice escapes from hair grabs, counters to pushes, and escapes from standing strangulation attacks.

This is a one-hour class with a rotating curriculum, so you can start anytime. Every week we start with a brief education session, then practice a set of defenses and/or escapes. No previous experience is needed.

This class is hosted by Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu Club, a family-friendly hybrid grappling school. These classes are expressly NOT sport Jiu-Jitsu, and the self-defense techniques taught span a multitude of martial arts disciplines.

The curriculum for the women's self-defense classes addresses violence against women (the content is not appropriate for girls under age 12), and focuses on the most effective escape techniques for the most common attacks by strangers, acquaintances, and intimate partners.

Classes are taught by women, and men other than the co-instructors (so you can practice with realistic size and strength) are not permitted to attend.

Classes are offered on a donation basis so that they are affordable for everyone. Most people donate between $5 and $10 per person per class, but a donation is not required to attend. Classes are open to all women and girls 12 years and up with parental supervision. This is a great class for mothers and daughters to attend together!

See the A.C.T. Women's Self-Defense FAQ page for the most frequently asked questions.

The self-defense classes start promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please arrive a few minutes early so you are ready to go. Please arrive by 8:50 a.m. for your first class to complete paperwork.
