What we'll do
This will be an all day affair.
Once in the park, we will hike a 10 mile loop through the park to see the remarkable Pinnacles. We will travel on the High Peaks Trail and the Balconies trail seeing a variety of rock formations, caves, and possibly condors. We will take our time, to make the most of the day.
There is some elevation gain, so if I haven't met you before please ensure you answer the question so I can assess your ability to complete this hike. I would hate for anyone to go all that way and not be able to complete it. If you do not answer the question, I reserve the right to adjust your RSVP and remove you from the "going" list.
Entrance Fee: $25 per car so be prepared to share the expense with your driver.
Disclaimer: I have never done this loop, but have total confidence in my ability to get us only minimally lost :) ..... This is where the sense of adventure and sense of humor are needed. Carpools: If you are riding with someone, please be prepared to assist with gas.... This is a trek. I will be driving my car which will hold myself and 3 others. Please indicate in the comments line if you are willing to also drive if need be. I would suggest we meet at Sonic (Park and Ride) in Vacaville and Caravan from there. Depending on the number of RSVP's, I may consider renting a van that will hold us all if everyone is willing to share the cost.
Take Hwy 101 South through Gilroy to Hwy 25 South
On Hwy 25, go through the town of Hollister and continue about 30 miles to Hwy 146
Turn right on Hwy 146
Turn left into the Pinnacles Campground to check in at the visitor center
From the Campground continue on Hwy 146 until it turns into Chalone Creek Rd
On Chalone Creek Rd, there will be a parking lot and buildings of some sort on the right (across from the trailhead)
What to bring
Please bring Plenty of water (I am not sure of water availability), snacks to last the day and lunch (We will stop for dinner on the way home), layers to adjust for temperature changes (including a rain layer), personal first aid kit, a sense of adventure and humor.
Important to know
I am not a paid guide and I accept no liability. Everyone is responsible for themselves and their own ability to complete this hike. If at any point you intentionally leave the group, you will be on your own and responsible for yourself. A map, in that case, would be helpful.
