This 40-acre portion of the Albuquerque's Open Space is nestled between the long-established Four Hills neighborhood and the new Juan Tabo Hills development to its west. The area is heavily used by local walkers, joggers, dog owners, and bike riders. Over the past few years city employees with help from NMVFO and other volunteers have refurbished or re-routed most of the trail network to alleviate the effects of erosion and help restore the natural landscape. We hope today's project will complete this work, which consists of clearing vegetation, smoothing and reshaping trail surfaces to improve drainage, moving and placing rocks as needed, blocking off closed trail sections, transplanting cacti, and related work. Here's a photo during a previous project showing part of the Open Space with a just-completed new trail on the left and an older in the process of being closed.
Registration: In addition to your RSVP, send an email to Lawrence Benson, one of the project leaders, [masked], so we can contact you directly with any updates and other information and send a link to photos afterwards.[To get around MeetUp's unhelpful masking rule, please manually type in LawRBenson @ aol .com to send the email or call him at[masked] 7999.]Please sign up by September 14.
Preparations: Volunteers should wear sturdy boots (no soft shoes), work gloves, long pants, sun protection, and a day pack with plenty of water, snacks, a light lunch, and a waterproof jacket or poncho if rain is in the forecast.
