Songwriting happens with inspiration and intention, along with time & space. Join us for an Upstream Retreat where we will provide time and space at Murphy's Resort, and inspiration from coaches who are seasoned song-writers, such as Esme Patterson, Clay Rose, and Arthur Lee Land/Carol Lee. This package includes workshops, performances by instructors, plus opportunities for performance by students. Retreat limited to 30 students, split into classes of no more than 15 for most sessions. Some group sessions.

$185. Workshops (2 full days) & Ticket to Listening Room Performance by Clay Rose & Esme Patterson

LODGING (REQUIRED). Continental Breakfast included.

  • $100.00 2 nights lodging in a Dbl Queen/Dbl occupancy. This can be requested with another specific student, or will be assigned randomly to same gender student. Each student pays $100 for 2 nights.
  • $200.00 2 nights PRIVATE room. Dbl Queen or Single King
  • ADD ON. $20 per DOG

NOTE: A minimum purchase of $100 per student for lodging is required. Non-student family members are included under the following circumstances:

  • A private room reserved for 1 student for a Dbl Queen has an occupancy of 4. The required 2 nights would be $200, but could have 3 non-students
  • A private room reserved for 1 student for a Single King has an occupancy of 2. The required 2 nights would be $200, but could have 1 non student.
  • A Dbl Queen room reserved for 2 students who pre-arrange to room together has an occupancy of 4. The required 2 nights would be $100 for each student, but could have 2 non students.


  • $50. All inclusive meals--Catering for 2 Dinners, 2 Lunches.

FRIDAY, February 1

4pm or after: Check in

6-8: Dinner provided at local venue (TBD) with singer/songwriter, Jonny Miller of The Lonsesome Days. performance-open to public.

SATURDAY, February 2

9 am: Breakfast and Welcome in the community room with songs.

9:45: Break into 2 groups.

10-12: Group 1/Clay Rose/Community room; Group 2/Esme Patterson/House


1-3: Group 2/Clay Rose/Community room; Group 1/Esme Patterson/House

3-5: Combined groups/instructors. Writing prompts, how to collaborate, small groups break off with coaching by instructors.

c. 7 PM: PERFORMANCE BY Clay Rose & Esme Patterson @ Masonic Lodge

This will be open to non workshop guests by invitation/RSVP. Tickets for non-students $15

Buffet served. Alcohol available for purchase vended by a local non-profit--the Estes Arts District

Sunday, February 3

Breakfast available in Community Room

9-10 am: "Open Mic" for anyone who wishes to participate

10-12: Break into 2 groups. Clay Rose + Arthur Lee Land/Carol Lee

12-1: Lunch

2-3: Break into 2 groups. Switch instructors. Clay Rose + Arthur Lee Land/Carol Lee

4pm: Performance by STUDENTS at a local venue (TBD) open to the public

Based out ofLyons Colorado,Arthur Lee Landrendersa modern eclectic fusion of electrified americana and acousticdrivenroots rock. Atthe heart of ARTHUR LEE LAND"is the creative songwriting collaboration of Arthur and his non-performing lyricist and wifeCarol Lee.

Arthur has developed, curated and hosted the Kinfolk Revival Workshop stage,beginningin 2015,at the Northwest String Summit outside Portland, Oregon,where you can find him ecstatically collaborating with many of the countries finest musicians. Arthur was musicaldirector forlegendary folk-rock iconDonovanin a special performance on his Sunshine Superman 50th Anniversary Tour featuring membersofElephant Revivaland Railroad Earth. Using his lifetime of talent, he was honored to be the musical director fora Grateful Dead TributeatRed Rocks Amphitheater, highlightingover 20 Colorado artists includinghis Trio forFilm On The Rocksin 2016

In the fall of 2014 Arthur joinedGreat American Taxi,a Colorado Jam bandwith along history. Tim CarboneofRailroad Earthproduced the bands latest album,Dr. Feelgood's Traveling Medicine Show,released in February 2017with 5 songspenned byCarol Leeand Arthur.

Arthur Lee Land has been a much loved staff member as the guitarinstructor atthe Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School on Planet Bluegrass in Lyons CO since 2003.
