The Upper Chester River is a beautiful, intriguing place to paddle with plenty of wildlife and areas to explore. We will put-in at Millington where the river narrows and meanders through forests and freshwater marshes. The Millington launch is primitive, but well worth the effort. We will head downstream towards the Shadding Reach boat launch at a leisurely pace, exploring the numerous coves, hidden lakes and meandering channels. We will take a break at Shadding Reach, and then paddle with the tide back up to Millington. Total round trip is approximately 6 miles, leaving everyone with enough time to head back to Rock Hall for the street festival. There is plenty of parking at the Millington Waterfront Park, and no permit is required. Please remember that 9:00 AM is on the water time.

Note: This paddle is for those individuals who prefer a slower pace. If you prefer a faster/longer paddle, we can set up a peer paddle from Millington to the Chestertown public launch, a distance of approximately 15 miles (and conveniently close to Robs Annual BBQ Blast). Leave a comment if you are interested.

Wicked Fun paddles are organized by volunteers who are experienced kayakers but not professional instructors or rescue experts. Participants are responsible for their own safety and should already know basic paddling skills, including wet-exit/self-rescue. You must have your own PDF, paddle and kayak.

How to find us:The park is on MD 313 near the main intersection in Millington.
