Trifecta: bag San Jacinto (10,834'), Jean (10,670'), & Marion (10,362') Peaks via the Fuller Ridge Trail & Off-Trail (cross-country) hiking! Join us for this mountain hike as we travel to the charming mountain town of Idyllwild to stop at the Forrest Service office (7:45 AM ish) for a permit before driving a short distance north to Black Mountain Rd. / the Fuller Ridge trail head (8:45 AM ish) where we'll do a loll-pop hike (long stem, short circle) that's both on trail (San Jac & most of the hike) & off trail (Jean & Marion peaklets) going up and down the Fuller Ridge trail (starting around 9:15 AM ish) to these three 10K peaks. We'll stop to filter H2O at Little Round Valley on the way up, tag all 3 peaks, & stop on San Jac for a long lunch break (1 hr?) / to enjoy the great 360 degree views / check out the "tourons" / etc. before tagging Jean & Marion, stopping to filter water a 2nd time on the way down from Marion, & finally finishing up on the Fuller Ridge trail again. This mountain hike at altitude is designed to give us an enjoyable day "out n' about" away from the city as well as an opportunity to acclimate for future fall mountain hikes in SoCal and the Sierra's. See some pics of this hike:

Details:This hike is approximately 15.5 miles long with around 4,000' of elevation gain (uphill) with several hours of cross-country (off-trail) hiking to Jean & Marion. Estimated hiking time is around 9:15 AM - 7:30 PM with breaks at the peaks to enjoy the views, sign peak registers, & have some food. Optional dinner stop in Idyllwild afterwards for those interested if time allows.

Bring:eithera minimum of 4 quarts or liters of H2O with electrolytes with at least 1 quart / liter in a bottle that you can drop on the way in & pick up later on the way out ... or / instead / better yet ... bring 2 quarts and a water filter / steri pen / or other water treatment device to treat water on the way up @ Little Round Valley (about 6 miles into the hike @ Little Round Valley) & again a 2nd time late in the afternoon on our way down from Marion when we hit the trail again; snacks to eat WHILE MOVING, "real food" for the early afternoon long lunch break at San Jac peak, some light layers for any wind up high (wind breaker or light jacket, beanie, gloves, etc.); hat / sunglasses / sunscreen, a headlamp with fresh batteries (always good to have just in case), any "drugs"/first aid items you might need, poles & gaiters can be helpful for the cross-country part, etc. Pre-hydrate by drinking ahead of time all day Fri. & again in the AM Sat. for breakfast & on the drive out to the hike as it will be warmer than usual out this weekend.

My hiking style:we'll stay together as a group for both camaraderie & safety; we snack & drink while we move except for short bathroom breaks, picture taking, or filtering of water as necessary; I'll take a very long break at San Jacinto peak to eat "real" food / enjoy the 360 view in the early afternoon & a shorter breaks @ the other peaklets to snack / sign registers; I prefer to hike at a steady / somewhat faster than average pace.
