The Valley That Became Two Mountains: The Curious Story of Golden's Table Mountains

The flat tops of North and South Table Mountains in Golden were once connected and used to form the bottom of an ancient broad stream valley. Hike to the top to get an up close and personal look at these young lava flows. Learn the fascinating story of their volcanic origin and how that ancient valley floor became transformed into the lofty mesas towering over Golden today.

Program details:
Ages 13 yrs - Adult
(This program is geared towards adults but kids interested in geology are welcome.)

You will meet the educator at the west trailhead (off of Hwy 93) for North Table Mountain Park.

This hike will cover about two miles and involves a steep climb. During the hike to the top of North Table Mountain, you will be stopping to observe the geology but please be prepared for a difficult hike.

Please dress for the weather. We recommend water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, snacks, and a pen & paper for taking notes if you wish.
