What we'll do
I'm sure demand will be high on this one, so get on the waitlist and I'll pick out a team later on. 12 max, including myself and Sara. I try to be as fair as possible and give people opportunities for events that align with their interests and abilities.

Ok, a new year and new explorations! This year I will be exploring the foods of Cascadia, particularly any food that we can forage, hunt, fish, or catch. Fiddleneck ferns, trout, Chantrelles, dungeness crab, huckleberries, mussels, crayfish, nettles, salmon - you get the idea, the possibilities for exploration are really endless. I've got a lot of ideas!

The first event is in a secret location that I have already scouted. It should be ideal in April for wildflower viewing - but adverse weather may force a re-schedule. And I may need to reschedule for other reasons - but I'm pretty stubborn so I'm sure we will make it happen some time around then. Since April has few things that we can forage ourselves, Sara and I will be buying and preparing food from a store ahead of time. We will prepare a meal while others hike. After the meal, if weather is appropriate, we will soak our feet in one of a couple of nearby obscure swimming holes. If not, I'll come up with something else.

The menu is not planned yet - we are working on some ideas. It will be lightweight and focus on quality over quantity. We eat gluten-free and tend towards a healthier, natural diet.

The cost for this event is $25 for shared food supplies, and $10-$15 gas contribution to drivers. Limit 10 guests plus the two of us. I don't make any money off this event - this is just to cover the costs of supplies. But the cost is not optional - I only want people interested in the wildflowers AND the culinary event.

Roughly, the schedule is...

7:30 am leave Gateway.
9:30 am: cross-country hike
1:00 pm: prepared meal in secret location - this will be upscale dining. Well, at least upscale in relative terms :-)
3:00 pm: secret swimming hole
6-7 pm: return to Gateway

What to bring
Basic hiking gear - water, snacks, suncreen, gloves for off-trail hike, weather-appropriate clothes, an appetite.

Important to know
PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Cascadia Explorers organizers are volunteers. We come prepared to lead you on a trail, or off-trail hike, but assume no liability for your safety getting to or from the trailhead or on the hike. In case of accident, illness, or other incapacity, hikers must pay for their own medical and/or evacuation expenses, whether or not the hiker has specifically authorized them. If you have any food allergies, you must communicate that to the event leader ahead of time.
