We'll walk silently at sunrise to listen to the dawn chorus of songbirds in Prospect Park. Prospect was designed to dampen the roar of the city, allowing us to exercise our listening skills in nature even in the heart of the urban cacophony. The birds, some arriving to nest here, others resting before continuing further north, are intimately tied to the blooming trees, whose emergent leaves and flowers feed the insects the birds feed upon. We will shut off our cellphones and open our ears in one part walking meditation, one part sensory re-education experience.
Please note 5:30 am start time.Meet in Prospect Park at theGrand Army Plaza entrance at Flatbush Ave in front of statue of James Stranahan. For nature walks, we advise bringing snack, water, sunscreen and hat.
