Very strenuous!! No beginners.
This will be a fairly fast-paced hike without a lot of stops for picture taking or socializing.
This is a training hike and while the views from the top will be worth it to some of the more hard-core hikers, I suspect the views would disappoint someone who would be looking for great scenery.
We'll be doing a 15.3 mile loop with over 5,000' of elevation gain to hit Clamshell (4,400'), Rankin (5,300'), and Monrovia (5,400') peaks.
Bring 3 Liters of water and at least 1/2 Liter of Gatorade or some other electrolyte. I suggest an extra 1/2 Liter of water for emergency if you run out of your main supply (4L total of liquid). This route only crosses a couple of stream-beds (that may be dry) near the end of the hike. Plan on paying attention to how much water you are consuming in the first 6 miles. There are significant sections of that route that are at 40% grade. (1,000' gain in ~1/2 mile) and there is NO shade as this is a mostly a truck-trail and Firebreak.
Bring lunch or a serious set of snacks. If you are qualified for this hike, you probably already know what kind of lunch you need to maintain energy while you burn 5,000 calories.
If you are drinking too much liquid or for some other reason cannot continue on the uphill portion, there is a fail-safe, because you can just turn back downhill to the trailhead.
No beginners!
No dogs, no one under 16 (i.e., don't bring your young kids).
