*Experienced Hikers Only*

We will do this trip only if we have at least 6 attendees by Thursday preceding the trip. Max for this trip will be capped at 12. This will be a strenuous trip at a slow-moderate pace. The time below is a best case estimate, that means weather, fitness etc can add to the time.

We will snowshoe(some bushwhacking will be involved) to summit of Volcano Peak for stunning views of the The Fortress, Tower, Old Baldy and Mt. Galatea. If conditions are right, we will do a ridge walk as far as we can safely to Mt. McDougall. Ice axe is required. No ice axe = no ridge walk. Conditions means wind, temperature, snowpack, cornices among other factors. This call will be made on the summit of Volcano.

Please note that the trip is too far in the future to accurately predict weather or avalanche conditions. We will assess the conditions the week of the trip and I will update the status here.

Distance: 12-14 kms roundtrip on the trail
Elevation: 1100m elevation gain
Times: 7-9 hrs on trail + 3 hrs driving
ETA back in Calgary: 7:00 PM
Fitness Level: Intermediate.

Have questions, concerns or want to share tips from recent trips to the area?, please PM or comment below.

Plan: We will leave Calgary at 7:00 AM sharp from gravel parking lot. Please be there at parking lot by 6:50 AM for gear check and intro. We will reach trailhead by 8:45 AM. We will start on the trail by 9:00 AM. We will snow shoe up the trail, have lunch at the summit. After lunch we will walk the ridge to Mt. McDougall - as far as we can safely. Only people with ice axes will be allowed to walk the ridge - No exceptions.

Our cut off time for this trip is sharp 1:30 PM, that means getting back to summit cairn by 1:15 PM and starting the trip back to our cars at 1:30 PM at the latest.
