Join me on a 2-3 mile snow shoe trek in the Jim Creek watershed area south of Winter Park

For all that all that have snow shoed in the Jim Creek watershed wilderness area, you already know how deep the snow can be, so let's have some fun in the snow.

Bring along the ten winter essentials:

Recommended winter 10 essentials (modified from the REI list):

1. Navigation - Map (with protective case), Compass, GPS (optional)

2. Sun protection Sunscreen, Lip balm, Sunglasses

3. Insulation winter insulated jacket, vest, snow pants, gloves, insulated winter boots, gaiters, face mask, neck wrap, and hand/toe warmers

4. Illumination - Headlamp or flashlight (plus spare), Extra batteries (kept near body when cold)

5. First-aid supplies - First-aid kit

6. Fire - Matches or lighter

7. Repair kit and tools - Knife or multi-tool, duct tape

8. Nutrition - Extra day's supply of food, high energy foods

9. Hydration -Water bottles or hydration system (insulated)

10. Emergency shelter - Tent, tarp, bivy or reflective blanket

Snow shoes and poles can be rented at REI.

If you are driving, make sure you have good treads on your all season or winter tires.

Expect heavy stop and go traffic on I-70/highway 40 to and from Winter Park.

Meet me at 7:30 AM at the Federal Center RTD park & ride (on the northwest corner of 2nd and Routt Streets, Lakewood, Colorado)
