Originally called Dixie State Park, Snow Canyon State Park was later renamed for Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, prominent pioneering Utah leaders. Snow Canyon State Park is a state park of Utah, USA, featuring a canyon carved from the red and white Navajo sandstone in the Red Mountains. The park is located near Ivins, Utah and St. George in Washington County. This park is a hybrid of Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire with mysterious ancient lava flows and red Navajo sandstone. There will be no scrambling or exposure, unless you are unruly and your driver or fellow passengers throw you out the open car window or door.

The trip is about 2 hours each way.

Carpool and Meeting Place

We will meet at 7:00 AM. Look for my yellow Mercedes Benz. We will arrange rides in a carpool and once everyone is present and accounted for we leave at 7:15 AM.

Bring a lunch and water and money for dinner in St. George at the Black Bear Diner. Please contribute $20 to your driver for park entrance fees, gas, wear and tear and putting up with you all the way up and back.

General

We will maintain a moderate pace. This is all about feeling good, fun and enjoying each other's company. We will allow enough time for potty breaks, photos, rest stops, snacks, lunch, and to enjoy the scenery along the way. We suggest you bring 1 liter of water for every 2 hours of hiking in summer weather, and half that in winter weather. Please read the entire description before you RSVP.

Caution

Other than the standard warnings about hiking in the desert, ...this is a pretty safe hike. The trail is strenuous, so take it easy at this elevation if you've just come up from the desert. There are places along the trail where a slip would prove fatal, but nothing out of the ordinary; watch your footing near edges. This trail is a bit long and hard for young kids. During summer, watch for thunderstorms.
