Pratik is experienced in end-to-end patent lifecycle management from working with inventors to create strong patents to enforcing patents. Pratik has extensive experience in patent prosecution, drafting and negotiating complex patent licensing deals as well as third-party development agreements. Pratiks practice areas at Thomas | Horstemeyer include computer/mechanical patent prosecution, licensing, transactions and due diligence. Prior to joining Thomas | Horstemeyer, Pratik worked as in-house IP counsel at International Game Technology (IGT), a $6b publically listed company, where he was responsible for patent prosecution for about 40% of IGT's worldwide patent portfolio.
Pratik also served as the lead attorney for IGTs out-licensing activities such as enforcement of IGTs patent portfolio through licensing, cross-licensing, patent sales and patent enforcement. Additionally, he supported various business units as the lead IP attorney, providing various counseling activities, patentability, freedom to operate and open source opinions. He also worked on various due diligence projects to support IGTs M&A activities as well as managing complex patent litigation including IPRs and foreign patent litigation.
During his Bachelor and Masters degrees, Pratik specialized in applications of computer control on various equipment such as robotic arms and automated guided vehicles as well as self-driving micro controlled vehicles. After his graduate degree, Pratik worked at Neopatents in Raleigh, NC where he delivered patent research projects for Fortune 500 companies in the medical, mobile and consumer device technology areas.
Pratik attended William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the BMS College of Engineering in Bangalore, India. His MS degree in Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering was awarded at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Pratik is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
