As public trust in Congress remains at all-time lows, and the urban-rural divide grows wider, present American politics seems to be particularly fragmented. What does bipartisanship look like in 2017? How do legislators balance the interests of an increasingly polarized citizenry? And how can Congress repair its reputation?

Join the IOP as we welcome Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO). Senator Bennet is a member of the Finance Committee; the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee; and the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Before being appointed to the Senate in 2009, he served as superintendent of Denver Public Schools. Drawing on his years of public service, the senator will discuss the importance of institutional norms, the state of American public education, and the challenges and opportunities for bipartisan collaboration both in Colorado and across the country.
