Shortly after the events of 9/11, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D, author of Women Who Run with the Wolves, wrote and posted a piece titled Mis estimados: Do not lose heart. Towards the end of her message she offers this inspiring challenge:

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these - to be fierce and to show mercy toward others, both, are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.

While the storms we face seem to have increased, our belief is that many of you have found ways to be souls on deck as we struggle to effectively respond to the social, emotional, organizational, political, relational violence increasingly evident today.

Those of us here at Saybrook University and Leadership Eastside have a longing to gather the souls on deck together in imaginal space to share stories, offer support, explore ways we might build a bonfire out of your individual sparks.

In the spirit of courageous collaboration, we offer this invitation to join us for the first ina Saturday Souls Salon series.
