About 9 miles to the summit and 5500 gain, they say if you can hike San G, then you should be able to hike Mount Whitney. We will meet at Vivian Creek parking lot by 7 AM, (it fills up pretty fast). The first 2 miles are very steep, then relaxes a bit. The last 3 miles becomes a challenge again.

We will first hike up to Camp Creek and set up camp and have a quick snack. Once done, we will continue up to the top have a nice lunch enjoy the view and bask in the knowledge that you made it to the highest peak in Southern California.

Bears live here. Bear canisters are required for camping here. Know the rules regarding safe practices.

We will go back down and celebrate at camp, get a good nights rest then head home Sunday morning.

I have only 10 spots, again priority will be given to the people that I have hiked with and am traing with to go to Muir/Whitney in August. Everyone will be placed on a wait list until all are placed.

Make sure to begin hydration the day before, get plenty of sleep, and have a good breakfast. You will burn calories.

Scarce water sources take enough water for the day (about 5 miles in is a creek). Bring your filter the water here tastes really good. Little shade at the higher elevations, so the 10 essentials a must.

Directions:The trailhead is reached by turning east off Highway 38 to Sand to Snow National Monument gateway community ofForest Falls. Continue through Forest Falls to the top end (east end) of theFalls Picnic Areaat the end of the road.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:1) Select hikes/events at your ability level or below.2) Bring extra water to hydrate before and during the hike.3) Limited shade, so bring hat andsun screen.4)Bring charged cell phone, personal first aid kit, whistle and flash light. 5) Wear trail shoes with traction given the steep and rocky nature of the trail. 6) Pit toilets available in parking lot.
