For Saturday well be running up South Arapahoe Peak from the Rainbow Lakes Camping area via the Arapahoe Glacier trail. This is a nice trail with a good portion of it above tree line. ...and the peak is spectacular.
The route is an out/back so everyone is welcome regardless of your level, you can simply run what youre comfortable with, and turn back early if necessary - for the whole route plan for around 13 miles and 4 hours.
Well carpool from the Boulder Justice Center parking lot at 6th & Canyon in Boulder at 6:30a.
For those wanting to meet at the trailhead, head to Nederland and then head north on the Peak-to-Peak highway (highway 72) for 6-7 miles and turn left on Co Rd 116 (Rainbow Lakes Rd). You will pass the Sourdough trailhead and turn left at the Y in the road. Follow the road to the end. There is a good size trailhead with facilities. We should be there around 7ish.
Dogs are allowed.
Note: There aren't any streams above tree-line on this trail to refill water, so make sure you bring enough. The weather is calling for sunny to partly cloudy in the morning and rain in the afternoon, so we'll plan to be well on our way down by then. With this said, the weather can be unpredictable in the mountains, so make sure to bring a light jacket, gloves, hat, etc. The best way for the group to stay safe is for everyone to be accountable and prepare themselves.
