This hike is a 6-mile out and back hike with approximately 820 feet of elevation gain to just under 3,000 above sea level. Well start by carpooling to the Soda Creek Trailhead just north of Castle Crags. There is basically no parking off the northbound I5 exit; however, we can continue on to the next off ramp and circle back around southbound on I5. There is a large area available for parking on the right hand side of the southbound Soda Creek off ramp. The trail follows the PCT for a short climb to the Root Creek Trail where we will head northeast towards Root Creek. There are some beautiful flowers along this hike through a damp pine forest. Just before the trail ends at Root Creek, well head uphill close by the creek following a use trail to some beautiful views of Root Creek Falls with Castle Dome in the background, like a picture right out of Yosemite. Im allowing 6 hours round trip time, including driving, but I would expect to finish in 5 hours or slightly more (2 mph pace), including the driving. There are no bathrooms or treated water available on this hike. Plan accordingly.

**The trip organizer is a volunteer and NOT a real leader (i.e. not liable for the group). Think of it as hiking with a group of friends.

**Joining any event is entirely voluntary and participants assume any and all risks and financial responsibilities associated with the activities; for example... bodily harm or injury and or death from wildlife, weather, terrain, falls, waterways, acts of God, etc. It is each persons responsibility to ensure that s/he is in sufficient fitness and health to participate in a strenuous activity, with the appropriate water, food, clothing, first aid, survival gear and navigation equipment for the conditions.
