Greetings -

RSVPs open

THIS IS A VERY LONG HIKE (up to 30 miles) - please read.

Saturday is supposed to be a sunny, hot day. Rigby has never been to Buck Peak nor Indian Mtn. Buck Peak is the highest point in Multnomah Country at 4720ft and has great views of Mt Hood, as well as Lost Lake:

The idea is to start hiking from Lost Lake Resort at 8am (NOTE: $8 per car charged by the resort for an entrance fee) following the trail around the lake to gain the ridge to the PCT where we will continue onto Buck Peak. Should be great views and sun! It's a 15.8 mile roundtrip to Buck Peak, but I hope to go beyond Buck Peak.

IF CONDITIONS ALLOW, we will continue on-trail (snow covered) along the PCT to the Indian Mountain trail, then to the Indian Mountain summit at 4895 ft elevation and its amazing views of the area:

Indian Mtn is the site of an old (decommisioned) lookout, and there is a summit register to sign.

There will be snow - even Lost Lake Resort does not know how much snow at this elevation. Post holing could be a big problem on a sunny day.

Bring microspikes, consider snowshoes, suntan lotion, sunglasses.

Total Distance: 28-30 miles (estimate) - need to measure

Elevation Gain:1800 feet (estimate)

Total Ascent: 2800 feet

Pace:2.7+ mph moving, 2.5 mph overall (brisk)

Difficulty Rating: Extreme

Estimated Hiking Time:12-13 hrs (more or less)

Parking Fee: $8 per car for Lost Lake Resort parking

Drivers:$10

Creek Crossings:None

BRING A HEADLAMP

I do not plan on being back at any particular time, yet I hope to make it back to the trailhead right before dark.

We shall plan to get some dinner (Shari's) after the hike.

My Hiking Style:

I have three basic rules for hiking: 1) Be safe 2) Respect the environment and 3) Have fun! I do not consider myself a "fast" nor "slow" hiker. We will take a number of short breaks, as well as a lunch break, keeping in mind to try and finish the hike before dark (unless otherwise noted). At the end of the day, my hope is that the hiking group feels they have had an adventure for all the right reasons.

THE FINE PRINT:

- The 'ten essentials' to always have in your pack generally include: Map/compass (and advance understanding of where you're going!), sun protection, extra clothes, extra food, extra water, headlamp/flashlight (and spare batteries), first aid kit, matches/firestarter, knife/tools, and a whistle if you need to signal for help. You should always be prepared in case you get separated from the rest of the group and/or have to spend a night on your own in the wilderness.

- As a Meetup organizer, I'm an unpaid volunteer. While I always try to ensure a safe and enjoyable outing for everyone, by signing up for this event you assume full responsibility for your own health, safety, and well-being for its entire duration, including while traveling to and from both the meeting place and destination.

- I welcome other NW Wilderness Organizers to sign up for and join my events; it's always great to have you guys along. I do, however, reserve the right to move you to the Waiting List if I decide to move qualified and Waitlisted non-organizers to the YES list.

- I also reserve the right to remove anyone from my events if I'm concerned that their ability or fitness level will slow down the rest of the group. If there is a waiting list, I may remove anyone with multiple past 'no-shows' to the 'no' list to make room for those who may be more reliable.
