June 16, 17, 18 is the weekend of the Quechee Balloon Festival.

Our Photowalk is scheduled for Saturday morning - the early morning light gives us great reflections from the Quechee Covered Bridge as the balloons lift off and float over the river.

The Quechee Balloon Festival is a great place to take photographs. You can start Friday night, come back Sat am, back again Sat night and then Sunday am and pm. Our official meetup is for Sat am - hoping for a 6am balloon launch.

Make comments below so we know what everyone is thinking....

PLEASE NOTE: It's hard to designate a meet up location, because some people will want to go and stand near the balloons to take photos and others want to be near the covered bridge - even if you are in the festival you can follow the balloons over to the river and the reflections near the bridge. But everyone is on their own - we'll run into each other so keep an eye out for fellow QACC members. If memberswant to grab breakfastafter helaunch we will meet at The Quechee Club base lodge after all the balloons have left. The Quechee Base Lodge is just past where we have our monthly meetings. Drive past the red building (where we have our meetings) and the next building on the RIGHT is the base lodge. They have a cafeteria there and can make you egg sandwiches, egg breakfasts, muffins, coffee etc.

The Quechee Balloon Festival returns to the Quechee Green this year and will once again have 20 balloons that will be scheduled to go up on Friday and Sat evening as well as Sat and Sun morning (weather depending). The dates for the Festival are June 17, 18, 19

Our Photowalk is on Saturday June 18. Come join us on Sat am for a Photowalk or head over on your own time. You will still be able to post pics regardless of when you goto the festival. The entire weekend is jam packed with activities like sky diving and dogs jumping for frisbees and other fun stuff. Check out their website for the schedule. (listed below in blue)

There are 2 main areas to take photos:It's difficult to find everyone so bring your camera and keep on the lookout for other QACC members.

1. You can actually stand right next to where the balloons are going up - If you have never done this it's really fun. There is a flat area where all the tents will be set up and then as you walk towards where the balloons are being set up (in the lower field) there is a little downslope - Balloons are scheduled to go up at 6am but sometimes they don't go up until later - all weather dependent.

2. The other place to shoot from is near the Quechee Covered Bridge to try and get the balloons with reflections on the water.

You simply never know (unlessit's raining) whether the balloons will go up or not - sometimes they go at 6 am and sometimes not until 7:30 so patience is a good thingalong witha strong cup of coffee! Yes they sell coffee there and Dunkin Donuts is on Route 4 just west of the covered bridge.

It's $15 for the ticket and that will cover you for the weekend-so if you come over on Friday night and get your ticket you can keep coming back (for more pictures and fun) and be able to take photos from different locations.

2 options for PARKING -

1. Going into the Festival:

if you want to go in and see the balloons being blown up etc - arrive early because it takes the buses a little while to get you there

parking is at the POLO FIELD, then you ride a bus to theFestival in Quechee - across from the Strong House Spa - from I89, turn west on Rt 4 towards Quechee, Woodstock and take your 1st right hand road at the Fat Hat Factory - come down the hill and take your 2nd left (at the Strong House Spa) and the parking is on the left - Google Strong House Spa for directions

2. PARKING for the Quechee Covered Bridge -

if you would rather take photos of the balloons near theCovered Bridge there is parking near the bridge or behind Simon Pearce Glassblowing - BUT, get there early - the lot at the bridge fills up fast

Members can hang together or go do their own thing but it's always fun torun into each other. The balloons will often head toward the Quechee Bridge so following them to get reflections in the river is always fun. Hopping in your car and hoping they go over Quechee Gorge is also a great photo op.

After the balloons head off we will meet up for Breakfast at the Quechee Club Base Lodge. There are plenty of seats there, a cafeteria, and great coffee. The Base Lodge is the white building just past the red building where we have our monthly meetings. Drive past the main red clubhouse (where we have our monthly meetings) and you will see the white building on your right. Park just after the building and come up the ramp and into the building.

How to find us:Some will meet at the Covered Bridge, others in the festival to get close to the balloons - we will meet for breakfast after the balloons have launched - see below for details.
