This is an opportunity to get your feet "wet" in what SwimRun is all about in a relaxed group experience before the actual event in August. Utilizing a small part of the actual course that is all within public access spaces, the pace at which you choose to move is yours entirely. You'll get the feel of "island road" running, the wild nature of the bold shoreline perimeter of Vaill Island and the short out/back swims there, the run to Long Island's Fowlers Beach, a 1700 yd swim from Long to Peaks Island, to conclude with the trail run of the Peaks Island Land Preserve and Shore Road to town. It is an "AT YOUR OWN RISK" undertaking as there WILL NOT be any official safety flotilla to accompany you across open water. Use of a New Wave Swim Buoy will be required of everyone and provided to you that morning at no cost. IT MUST BE RETURNED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FESTIVITIES. Likewise, there will not be any aid stations available, you'll need to carry what hydration/nutrition needs you'll want. To emphasize, this is a DIY training session to check things out with a group of like-minded nuts!! In the event of unfavorable weather, the decision is entirely yours on what you do.The 6:30AM Casco Bay Lines ferry is the one to take to the starting venue on Long Island. You'll make your purchase of a ferry boarding pass that morning for $10.70. That includes the return trip to Portland from Peaks Island. What you'll want for clothes/supplies to await you on Peaks Island when you're done cannot be more than will fit in a SMALL bag for the unlucky sherpa that will commandeer a small boat and equally unlucky child to attend to your stuff. Please be considerate.
