Another new opportunity for 3H members! This short but strong hike will climb to the highest peak of Pass Mountain in the Goldfield Mountain range. This will be an out and back hike. It is 4.2 miles, but don't be fooled. It is a good workout as we will ascend a very steep section of somewhat loose rock on our way to the top. Hiking sticks/poles are HIGHLY recommended. This is steep going up and slippery coming down! A pole or two will help immensely. There is a sign-in box at the peak with outstanding views across the Valley of the Sun. Elevation gain is around 1400 feet. There is a short section where we will climb up along a small cliff area. If you have a strong fear of heights, this may not be your hike, but it isn't that bad, really. One of your hike leaders has that fear, and rates this one on the very low end of the scale.

Length: 4.2 miles total/round trip (out and back format).

Rating/Difficulty: Moderate to Moderately Difficult depending on skill level.

Accumulated Elevation Gain: 1400 feet

Hiking Time:Expect 3 to 4 hours for this hike.

What To Bring:Please bring plenty of water (at least 3 liters) and nutritious snacks. We will break for lunch at the top. As always, bring good shoes, hats, sunscreen, cameras, etc.

Note: There are no facilities at the trailhead.

Suggested Carpool location: 7:30 am at the Bashas', 1133 N. Ellsworth Road, Mesa, AZ 85207. Please park away from the store front and near Ellsworth Road just south of the corner gas station entrance. We will be at this carpool location to help lead a caravan to the trailhead.

Other carpool arrangements and spots can be made by agreement. Just use the "Comments" section to make a suggestion to your fellow hikers!

VERY IMPORTANT: Please state whether you will be at the carpool spot or, in the alternative, whether you will meet at the trailhead. This helps us, and your fellow hikers to know where to look for you.

For those interested, we can do food after, backnear the carpool location. B's Fiesta Kitchen is right there (1157 N Ellsworth Rd #102, Mesa, AZ 85207). We haven't been, but thought this would be a good chance to give it a try.
