What we'll do
This is one of my favorite hikes in the bay area, and a good hike to explore Henry Coe state park. The destination is the beautiful Pacheco falls - a one of a kind waterfall formation which consists of multiple steps with a pool at each step. The waterfall is 12 miles one way from the nearest entrance, so very few people go there. When you do go there, you have some peaceful time to enjoy the falls instead of the usual crowds you encounter at other waterfall hikes in the bay area. This hike is usually done as a 2-day backpacking trip, but I want to do it as a day hike - I have done that as a day hike in 2017, and was able to return with enough daylight to spare. That said, this will be a HARD hike. The cumulative elevation gain is a little over 5000ft, and the loop route we take will add up to 23.4 miles. And it is not the typical 5000ft hike in which you climb up to a peak in the first half and climb down in the second half. No point on the hike is above 2700 ft - it's more of a roller coaster hike where you go up and go down, and basically repeat that all day. Make sure you are prepared for this hike. Sign up only if you have done 15+ mile hike in the past three months, and you can handle the roller coaster elevation changes. We will need to keep a fast pace close to 3 MPH on this hike - it will add up to 10 hours with breaks. This is roughly the route we will take:(will post detailed route info before the hike). Carry cash with you to pay the parking fees (~$5) at the entrance.

What to bring
- Good hiking shoes (preferably waterproof - we have to do a couple of stream crossings in the last mile or two). Parts of the hike are steep, so it helps to have shoes with good grip.
- Long hiking pants - there are many places with poison oak on this trail
- 3 litres of water - there are no places you can refill at
- Snacks and lunch
- Head lamp (in case we get delayed and have to hike back in the dark)
- Hiking poles, if you need them
- Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Swimming shorts, if you want to take a dip near the fall

Important to know
