The Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) of Northwestern University is pleased to announce its21st Annual Graduate Research Conference on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at Navy Pier. This year's conference theme entitled:Black Scholars Matter: PHinDing the Strength to Be PHinisheD, not PHeD Upaims to delineate and uncover existing struggles associated with the graduate student experience while establishing and building a better sense of community, structure, and support for graduate students of color. It is our belief that the journey through graduate education should be one that includes professional and personal development. This is made possible through the knowledge sharing via presentations, research showcasing, and networking sessions.
For 20 years, BGSA has hosted diverse graduate students in STEM, humanities and social sciences across the Midwest and provided a safe space for students to present their research, network and celebrate their place in academia. As with previous conferences, the goal of our conference is to highlight the work of scholars of color as well as scholars whose work touches communities of color. We strongly encourage students from all disciplines to present their research, including humanities, business, STEM, social sciences, law, and the arts. Students can present their work as a poster or oral presentation. Travel grants of up to $100 will be available for students traveling more than 180 miles. Awards will be given for best poster and oral presentation!
