* The weather is perfect this Saturday -- sunny and in 40's. Let's attempt a challenging hike up to Camp Muir at a moderate pace (please read my comment below).

* Last year, even I got sun-burned on our way up there. You must bring sunscreen, hat, gloves, sunglasses or goggles, hiking-poles or ice-axe and microspikes or crampons.

Total Length: 8-9 miles round trip
Elevation change: 4700' gain
Difficulty: Most Strenuous
Pace: About 900' gain per hour (estimated 5 hours ascent, 3.5 hours descent)

From the west, drive Highway 706 (National Park Highway) to the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Follow Paradise Road East approximately 17.5 miles to Paradise.

Tentative Itinerary
06:00am - Eastgate P&R
08:45am - Start hiking
02:00pm - Lunch at Camp Muir
06:00pm - Back to trailhead
09:00pm - Back to P&R. (may stop at Copper Creek on the way back)

Important:
1. You and you alone are completely responsible for your safety.
2. National Parks Pass is required, one per car.
3. No dogs on this hike please.
4. Wear sturdy waterproof boots, have layers of clothing, microspikes/crampons, gaiters, poles or ice-axe, plenty of water, snack, packed lunch, and anything else of 10 essentials (http://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html).
5. Please bring $15 for your driver and a bag for your muddy boots if you plan on being a rider.
6. Update your RSVP in advance if your plans change. Two no-shows and/or late cancellation and you won't be able to participate in my future events.
7. Finally, please answer the question about carpool and add yourself to the wait list. I will move you to the main list as drivers sign up. We will limit this hike to a group of 8 (2 cars). Thanks!
