The Appalachian Trails changing of the guard from Maine to New Hampshireis mile for mile amongst the most difficult sections of the entire AT. Starting at Route 26 in Grafton Notchand traversing the Mahoosuc Range to Route 2 in Shelburne, this section features 31 miles and approximately 10,000 feet of elevation gain. Along the way youll be treated to majestic views, alpine bogs, ledge climbs, above treeline traverses, and a mile-long scramble through the boulders of Mahoosuc Notch.

Total Mileage: 31 Miles
Total Elevation Gain: 10,000 ft.

We will meet at the Rattle River Trailhead on Rt. 2 at 5am, then drive a few cars to the Grafton Notch Parking Lot on Rt. 26 to start hiking. It is a 45 minutes drive between trailheads.

To bailout, once you get to Gentian Pond, you would head south along the Austin Brook Trail to Anasigunticook Rd, turn right (west) onto North Rd and take that back to Rattle River Trailhead on Rt. 2.
