** Larger groups usually get spread out over longer distances as people have different abilities and hiking speeds. It's important that everyone knows the route and options for shortening his/her hike. If you hike at a more leisurely pace, try to hike with a buddy.

***This hike is NOT for Beginners***

***There is NO sweep on this hike***

Metro-North train leaves Grand Central at 6:43am and arrives in Beacon around 8:20. Contact me directly if you need a ride from the train to the trailhead.

The Hike: We will start hiking from the parking lot at 8:45am. Please arrive a few minutes early. If arriving late, just catch up. This will be a moderately-paced hike (not slow) with a number of very nice viewpoints!! Starting at the Mt. Beacon Park on Rte. 9D, we'll go up the red trail to a quick stop by the former casino/hotel site. Then we'll continue on the red and break off to the fire tower. After taking in the 360 views from the fire tower we'll head down the White Trail to the red again and turn right. Stay on red for a short distance to Yellow. Turn left on Yellow for a couple miles to the White trail which stays slightly left. We'll loop around the north end of the Fishkill Ridge passing Bald Hill and Lamb's Hill along the way. After Lamb's Hill, we'll descend on the white trail, pass small waterfalls and stay along the stream to Yellow. Turn left on Yellow. After about one mile, we'll meet the red trail again just above the metal stairs and follow it back to the parking lot.

Distance: Approx. 10.5 miles

Duration: 5 hours including stops

Difficulty: Moderate; first mile is all uphill and can be strenuous for some; numerous shorter uphills along the way. Don't overestimate your ability.

Elevation gain: Approx 2,700 feet

Views: All directions

Gear: Clothing for changing temps/wind; water; snacks/lunch

Map: NY/NJ Trail Conference map for East Hudson trails; Avenza phone app for Hudson Highlands Park trails; or similar maps or apps.
