This is a beginner level hands-on orientation session for those interested in exploring and learning about mountaineering and winter/snow skills. We will drive to the Snoqualmie Pass area and pick a safe and less trafficked hill to practice the following skills:

Basic Mountaineering Skills
Snow skills
Rope Skills
Ice Ax Skills
Teamwork
Gear (team and personal)
Training and conditioning
Hazards and Risk avoidance

What to bring
Mountaineering boots, ice ax, helmet, gaiters, hiking poles, foam pad (to sit and keep dry), glacier rope if you have one, shovel if you have one, carabiners if you have any, waist harness if you have one, warm clothing with wind and snow/rain protection, be prepared to spend 5-8 hours on the snow, food and water for the day.

We will break out into groups of 3-6 per team and practice the above skills. Everyone will get an opportunity to practice most of the skills mentioned above. Please, take the time to click on the above links (Knots) and practice/review each knot type before we meet. You can use any type rope for now.
