It is a requirement to read the following trip posting very carefully and to make the proper and responsible preparations for it. Failure to do so, will result in participant not allowed on this trip. A waiting list has automatically been created to determine this trips suitability for you as a potential participant. You must meet all the pre-requisites to be eligible to attend this trip. This is not a first-come first served hike: participants will be selected based on their experience and abilities. As a potential participant, you must check this trip posting for additional directions from the organizer, including up to trip cancellation.

Event type and pace: This is an intermediate hike not suitable for beginners. We will try to hike together as a group but it is understandable that some people may be faster than an intermediate pace and when necessary it would be courteous for people to stop and wait for others in the group to catch up. If you are unable or unwilling to keep an intermediate pace, you should not sign up. Note: if there are enough advanced hikers, we might organize a separate group for them - contact Greg for details.

Description: Mount Benson is the highest point in Nanaimo with scenic views. The distance is approximately 7-8 km and the elevation gain is 700 m. It takes about 4 hours on trail.

Required Gear: Hiking boots, water, layers. Bring a lunch or snacks. Hiking poles are strongly recommended (see image below) as they will help immensely on rugged sections and snow covered trails and lessen impact on knees.

Waiver: You must sign our club waiver before you are allowed to go on this trip and you shall arrive prepared with an emergency name and phone number to be recorded on the waiver. You are required to read the Nanaimo Day Hikes Club Waiver: https://www.meetup.com/Nanaimo-Day-Hikes-Meetup/pages/22791742/waiver/. (No need to print.)

Disclaimer: You are fully aware that your hosts are volunteers and not trained guides and you assume all responsibility for your own safety and well-being. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, your current physical condition and current trail conditions for the trip and you are responsible for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
