IMPORTANT ROUTE CHANGE

Due to the fire that swept into the area, we will not be walking around the lake, but down the east side and then do a loop around the southeast ridge area. We will climb to the highest point and then double-back to avoid Big Red.

There is one steep hill on the route. Your dog will do fine. We will stop at the top to give you a rest.

This hike is dog friendly!

DETAILS

Distance: The hike is about 3 miles long. It should take us about 1 to 2 hours round trip.

Difficulty: Moderate

Facilities: There are facilities at the trailhead but none along the route. Bring your own water for you and for the dog.

Gear: Good shoes, hat, and lunch. Trekking poles can be very helpful along the switchbacks. Cameras can capture stunning views and the nuances of the village site.

Pets: You can bring your dog!

DIRECTIONS:

From Interstate 5, take Jamboree Road towards the hills. After about six or seven miles, turn left on Canyon View Avenue. (There will be a sign indicating the direction to the park.) The parking lot is about 100 yards on the left. Be prepared to pay a $3 fee.

Pay attention to the No Parking signs, as tickets are issued frequently to those who park in that zone.

HIKE GUIDANCE:

Select hikes that are at your ability level-there is no sweep.

Bring at least one bottle of water (16oz). Two might be best for this hike.

Eat a hearty breakfast and bring a bag lunch.

Rain three days or less prior to hike might cancel the hike. Check the site the night before for news.

Wait at each trail crossing or turn-off for the rest of the group and the organizer.

Wear appropriate hiking clothes and shoes.

Do not leave a fellow hiker behind without inquiring as to their condition.

You are responsible for your own safety.

Bring food, water, and a leash for your dog.
