On December 2nd, 2017 our community (those with housing and those without) will come together to walk from Catholic Charities Mission to the Murphy Center of Hope -- a walk that many of the guests we serve make every day. This walk will help us come together as a united community, build awareness about homelessness and raise funds for the Murphy Center.
There are multiple ways (below) that you can help support this event and the mission of the Murphy Center...but first, we have an exciting new announcement: Modern Woodmen is MATCHING up to $2,000 in remaining ticket sales and donations! This means that your contribution will have double the impact.
Group Walk Package (#3 above) Details: We would love for your business, school, faith-based organization, book club, hiking team, neighborhood or any other type of group to consider forming a walking team for this event! A Group Walk Package for $250 includes up to 12 walk tickets and sponsorship for 4 MC Guests for a special Saturday morning at the MC plus lunch!
This event will happen no matter what the weather, unless driving conditions would endanger participants getting to and from the event. We will make arrangements to give our participants a heads up if we have to cancel due to weather. The walk is approximately .8 (8 tenths) of one mile long. Transportation will not be provided back to the starting point, so please plan accordingly.
The event will begin near Catholic Charities Mission at 8:15 AM and end with an open house at the Murphy Center until 11:00 AM. This will give all members of our community the chance to tour the Murphy Center and learn more about the agencies that provide services there. Guests of the MC (those receiving services) who participate in the Walk and would like to stay will enjoy a casual lunch at 11:00 AM with the event and building closing at noon.
If you intend to join us in the walk or are looking for an additional way to support our cause,we encourage you to donate non perishable food or gear and enjoy the MC Open House from 9 AM to 10 AM as part of the M2H Walk Event!!
If you are walking in the event please feel free to pack along with you any high demand winter items. Just like the guests we serve, we encourage you to carry these items with you for the length of the walk; you can drop off your donations when we end our walk at the Murphy Center.
If you can't participate in the walk but want to donate food or gear, you have two drop off options at the Murphy Center:
Drive up and Drop off (easy and quick in and out): 8 AM to 11 AM Outside
Drop off and come inside to enjoy the Open House: 8:30 AM to 10 AM
Items that are in high demand for winter months include tents, hats, gloves, socks, footwear, jackets, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, blankets, hand-warmers, tarps, coats, backpacks, day packs and All Non Perishable Food Items!!
