The plan is to take the Upper Winter Creek Trail to Manzanita Ridge and return the way we came.

The first recorded exploration of the mountain was performed byBenjamin Davis Wilsonalso known as "Don Benito". Wilson, who was the grandfather ofGeorge S. Patton, was the owner ofRancho San Pascualin about 1852 and ran a winery at his home, "Lake Vineyard", which was in the area of today'sSan Marino. Wilson hoped to find a suitable wood for his casks but was disappointed by the poor quality of trees on the mountain. He built a trail, following an established Indian route, which became known as the Mount Wilson Trail. In turn Wilson's trail became the predecessor of theMount Wilson Toll Road.

If you wish to continue on to Mount Wilson, you may do so on your own. Just make sure you know the trail and are prepared to hike on your own.
