One of the hidden jewels of Texas, the Lone Star Hiking Trail is the only long-distance National Recreation Trail in the state. At 128 miles (including loop trails), it is also the states longest continuously marked and maintained footpath. The trail meanders through gently rolling forests of pine, oak, cypress, palms and mixed hardwood. The seemingly endless variation of forests, most of which is designated wilderness, provides a paradise for backpackers and trail hikers.

The Hike: From Trailhead #3, we'll walk West taking the Wilderness Trail to TH #2. From there, head South until the trail intersects with Sand Branch. Doing a short out and back on Sand Branch Trail, we'll return, completing the hike. The hike map can be seen in photos.
