This free hike will focus on landscape photography on the Deschutes Canyon rim, and the morning shadows and colors in the canyon. Professional photographer and avid hiker Tom Iraci will be giving tips for producing high quality photographs and give some expert advice on subject composition.

The hike involves up to 700 feet elevation change and is considered moderately difficult, although frequent stops will be made to compose photographs.

In addition to camera equipment (camera, tripod, notebook, extra batteries) participants need to bring sun protection, adequate water and snacks, sturdy hiking boots.This trail is quite steep in places with aslippery gravel surface. Hiking poles are strongly advised. Near the river, hikers will need to scramble over a large boulder.

Group will meet at7:30 a.m.at the BLM Scout Camp Trailhead, located at the end of SW Scout Camp Trail (road) at Crooked River Ranch.

Group size is limited to 8 people. If you sign up and later need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible so that people on the wait list can be invited to join this hike.

This event is sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of the Deschutes Canyon Area (FANs), a group founded in 2011 by landowners surrounding the Deschutes Canyon-Steelhead Falls Wilderness Study Area in Central Oregon who came together over their shared love of nearby public lands. The focus area of FANs includes many special places such as Steelhead Falls, Alder Springs, the Peninsula, Otter Bench and Scout Camp.
