Feb 10 9:00AM - 11:00PM

Time for the February KAB (Keep Austin Beautiful) Lake Cleanup, Saturday, February 10th, 9-to-11 AM. Meet at Congress Kayaks at Waller Creek Boathouse for on-shore or on-water clean-up. More info about KAB Lake Cleanups at: http://keepaustinbeautiful.org/program/clean-lady-bird-lake

Kayak rentals are donated by Congress Ave Kayaks (http://www.congresskayaks.com/). They give us 12 double kayaks, i.e., for 24 people. KAB also sends volunteers (not through Sierra Club). Kayaks are given out to first 24 people on the scene who want to go out on the lake (no reservations). Others can do shore cleanup, or pay to rent kayaks.

Launching from Austin Rowing Club docks. ALL KAYAKERS MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM; THERE IS NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. PFDs (life jacket) will be provided. Meet at Waller Creek Boathouse, downstairs. Or, if you want to use your own kayak or canoe, you can launch at Holiday Inn Town Lake boat ramp (approx 0.5 mile south, along East Ave) and paddle up to the boat docks. We will be cleaning in the area along the north shore of the lake, from Congress bridge to I-35 bridge, including the Waller Creek outlet.

Probably the best place to park is at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River Street. Metered -- $1.25/hour. Or, you can ride the Metro (http://www.capmetro.org/planner) to 4th & Trinity. Or bike!

"Volunteers and city staff remove about 250 tons of trash from Lady Bird Lake each year, with much of the debris dumping into the lake from streets, parking lots, sidewalks and parks", according to a city statement.
