L.O.V.E. (Linking with Others through Volunteering& Evangelism)Homeless Outreach at Shiloh Baptist Church of McLean, VAthanks you for volunteering to unite with us so we can achieve ourgoalto better serve the needs of those in our community.
On the first Saturday of each month L.O.V.E. provides both physical and spiritual assistance to nearly 200 homeless and needy of the metropolitan area. We aim to provide a faithful response to povertyand improve the quality of life for individuals in our community by contributing food, clothing, toiletries and faith based literature. Our desire is not simply to provide a meal but to serve the homeless with a personal touch of care, concern, and God based LOVE.
L.O.V.E.'s 2016 focus is "Pressing Into His Purpose & Power". So please note we as a ministry are developing our discipleship by following God's lead. In doing this, we preparing ourselves spiritually before we serve becausewe know that serving is more than physical but also a spiritual connection with others. Therefore we utilize our entire month tofocus on being poured into before pouring out to those we serve.
In addition to attending at leastonebible studyeach month and partnering withourCommunity Prayer or finding your ownPrayer Partner to pray overboth our ministry and those we serve, weask each volunteer to reflect on a scripture prior to serving the homeless. This month's scripture is:
1 Peter 1:22
It's focus is onallowing Him, His Word & work toTRANSFOM you which is Shiloh Baptist Churh's focus of 2016. Please remember this time of reflection is VERY important in being able to completely serve those in need as it helps us to not only meet their immediate needs but take them to where they need to be. Therefore we will have a group discussion on this scripture prior to heading into Washington, DC.
We will meet at Shiloh in the Fellowship Hall at 8a and begin preparing the items. Once bags are complete, we will head into Washington D.C. by van and/or car pooling. We should return to the church by 11:00 A.M.
If it is NOT RAINING (hard) we will start at:
FranklinSquare (near the McPherson Metro at 14th & I Streets, NW):
If it RAINS hard, we will go straight to:
DC Central Kitchen / Mitch Snyder Shelter
