This training is for individuals with developmental disabilities, family members, and other community members, staff, advocates, professionals, or anyone interested in learning to become a paid or volunteer Independent Facilitator in the Regional Center's Self-Determination Program (funded by the Department of Developmental Services). The following topics will be addressed:

  • History and current status of theSelf-Determination Program in California

  • Person-Centered Planning; identifyinghopes, goals, and dreams; making informed decisions

  • The role of the Independent Facilitator; Principles ofSelf-Determination

  • Role of the Service Coordinator,Regional Center, and the development of the Individual Program Plan (IPP)

  • Individual Budget, Spending Plan, and the role of the Financial Management Service

  • Background checks, reducing the riskof abuse, and Mandated Reporting

Offered through a collaborative of self-advocates, family advocates, and agencies serving people with intellectual or developmental disabilities inthe greater Sacramento region.
