Hey guys, this trip is for those guys who missed our last trip. We had so much fun we want to do it again. So lets head to the Outer Banks for a day and night of history, seafood, and fun in the sun. Here is a sample itinerary of trip.


Leave Raleigh at 9:00am and arrive in Manteo, NC by 12:15pm.

12:30 am Elizabethan Gardens, Stroll through these majestic gardens, which were designed in 1960 as a living memorial to Queen Elizabeth, Sir Walter Raleigh and the members of the Lost Colony. A highlight of the gardens is an outstanding collection of antique statuary. [masked]; www.elizabethangardens.org

1:30 am Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Located on Roanoke Island, visit the newly renovated visitor center; the historic site features the restoration of an earthen fort believed to have b een built by Ralph Lanes colonists in 1585. Here the story of the Lost Colony and there plight to set up the first attempt of English civilization in the New World. Also find out about the Freedmans Colony and how Roanoke Island play a significant role in the Civil War history. Free admission.


2:00 pm Lunch, exploring and shopping on own, Downtown Historic Manteo, walk around downtown historic Manteo and explore Roanoke Marshes Light and the George Washington Creef (working) Boat shop: The replica of the 1850s screwpile light that once stood guard over nearby Croatan Sound, will offer visitors a unique glimpse into the maritime history of the island, as well as the lightkeepers who once lived at the station. The working boat shop gives the visitor a glance of the Ella View, an authentic shad fishing boat made from native Outer Banks trees, this fishing boat is an example of the historical boat developed over a century ago at Roanoke Island. Admission is free to both. The Downtown area is also full of locally owned shops, boutiques, cafs and restaurants.

3:30pm Bodie Island Lighthouse Completed in 1872, this Lighthouse sits on the north side of Oregon Inlet near the northern border of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The familiar black and white horizontal striped structure was partly built of materials leftover from the construction of the newest Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Standing 156 feet tall and equipped with a first-order Fresnel lens, it flashes its 160,000 candlepower beacon 19 miles over the ocean. Free admission to the grounds; minimal fee to climb to the top. 4:30pm Jockeys Ridge State Park, Climb the tallest natural sand dunes on the East Coast. Learn how these sand dunes shift and move with the wind at the visitors center/museum. Take a nature walk to the top of the dunes to view the Roanoke Sound. Phone:[masked]; www.jockeysridgestatepark.com

6:00pm Wright Brother National Memorial, Visit the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright broke our bond to earth in 1903. Listen to an interpretive talk about the first flight from a park ranger, see the reconstructed campsites, view the markers that indicate where the Flyer landed, and walk up the monument itself. Dinner 7pm

8:30-- til Relaxing on the deck and sitting on the beach

Leave by 10am on Sunday. You will need your share of the hotel fees, and food and entertainment fees. I will give these details later. So come on out, and lets enjoy the beautiful Outer Banks!
