$26. Long hike: 11 mi., 1800 ft. ascent/descent. Moderate hike: 7 mi., 1400 ft. ascent/descent.
Superb hiking awaits us in this return trip to a little-known, 23,000-acre wildlife management area in the mountains southeast of Berkeley Springs, WV. From Rt. 45, well head north on the Packhorse Trail Rd. and the High Rock Trail. Long hikers depart the latter at the EquestrianBike Trail before turning south on the Tuscarora Trail. Moderate hikers stay on the High Rock Trail to the Tuscarora Trail, where the routes rejoin. After a southbound segment on the Tuscarora Trail, hikers turn west on the Millrace Trail and later meet the Packhorse Trail Rd. back to the bus.

Reservations: The Capital Hiking Club is a non-profit group, and the public is invited to join on all trips. Early reservations are appreciated! While reservations are accepted Friday, making your reservation prior to Thursday evening helps to ensure your seat on the bus, and prevents the cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups.
If contacting hike leaders during the week of the hike, please place calls prior to 9:30 p.m. As a courtesy to other hikers and to the hike leaders, please cancel as early as possible, so that your reserved spot may be given to someone else.
Cost, what to wear, what to bring: Transportation costs are listed for each hike. Bring sufficient food and water for a day's outing in a day pack or fanny pack with individual First Aid articles, a whistle, and extra clothing according to the season. Sturdy boots or shoes are a necessity. It is recommended to carry 8 oz. of water per mile to be hiked. Gatorade or other electrolyte replacement drinks are also recommended. Bring some cash for post-hike refreshments as well.
Liability: By RSVPing for a CHC hike, you are acknowledging and accepting that hikers are responsible for their own safety and must assume risks and liability for all outings. CHC leaders, officers, and representatives shall not be liable for any injuries, loss or damage to persons or property, direct or consequential, arising out of any trips or Club activities. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver the day of the hike. Hikers are expected to be able to keep a 2 mph pace.
