Read the entire description carefully. Sign up when you decide you definitely want to attend - not just considering. As I am a mere mortal - neither a guide nor a leader - you are responsible for your well being and preparation. Note that this is the southbound direction. Consider the Colorado backpackers if this is full or if you'd like to hike towards Denver. We'll break for photos, pleasantries and key swapping when we meet in the middle but not hike together.

This is the sixteenth hike in my "Hike the Colorado Trail Series". There's a Denver bound and a Durango (south) bound group (with whom I hike). You are signing up for the Durango (south) bound hike with me.

I'm aiming for 8-12 people in each direction.

The trip: We'll meet early Saturday morning and return that afternoon/evening. You'll hike in the direction of the guide and data books.

Carpooling: Everyone must meet in the Twin Forks PNR and be ready to go by 6:30 am. From there, we will form a sophisticated carpool system. You'll be driving or riding in a northbounder vehicle to your trail head. They will be driving (or riding in) a southbounder (our) vehicle. We'll swap keys in the middle of the hike. You'll end up in your car or a car of a hiking companion (track your carpool). If you can, please plan to meet after the hike (location TBD) for some food.

From the official Colorado Trail Guide: "The trees are one of the highlights of Segment 5. The trail passes through several spectacular stands of aspen, a species that shares extensive root systems that produces colonies that can live thousands of years. The CT also passes by bristlecone pines...."

Distance: 14.6 miles

Gain/Loss: 1858'/2055'

I'd rate this a hard hike mostly for its distance

Speed: moderate (guessing 6-8 hours of hiking)

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome if you follow the trail rules.

Bring: Hiking stuff: you are responsible for your trip. It's dangerous to assume others know where they are going, how to pack or your fitness level.

Take highway 285 3 miles past Kenosha Pass. Turn left onto Lost Park Road (might be labeled 56). Follow it 11 miles to a road marked FS Rd 817 on the left by a gully. Take it. Be careful as there is an earlier sign for the CT. Follow the linked map (as with all my hikes).

End at: Kenosha Pass Trailhead. Take highway[masked] miles to Kenosha Pass. There should be parking on the right hand (north) side of the road.

By signing up, you are indicating the following: you understand that you are solely responsible for your safety (see the waivers associated with the group) and you are aware that this is a group event.

How to find us:Lot is less than 8 miles from 470 - half mile past the first South Turkey Creek Road exit on the left.
