TheASPCA indicates that of the roughly 3.9 million dogs entering shelters per year approximately 31% are euthanized. In some urban areas these numbers run as high as 78%.

Be a part of reducing euthanasia rates by hiking with local homeless hounds. Socialization and exercise can reduce kennel related stress and anxiety and improve shelter dog behaviors, thus extending their lives!

Tails of the Trail invite you to hike with shelter dogs for a couple hours of exercise and companionship. We're partnering withMaury County/City of Columbia Animal Services and we'll hike the furry pups at either Riverwalk Park totaling about 2.0 miles or around the Shelter's fields where you will get to exercise more than one dog. Distance will vary based upon Summer temperatures.

Agenda:

8:00a - Meet in the lobby of animal services for a required volunteer orientation; business is currently closed to the public.

8:30a - Partner up with your hiking companion and let the FUN begin! Swing by the fenced play yards for some off leash ball time followed by a frozen pupsicle treat. Or load your dog for transport to RiverWalk Park and enjoy the scenery of this well groomed greenway.

10:15a - All dogs should be a bunch of happy, waggin' tails and returned back to their rooms for a quiet nap.

10:30a - Now it's time for human socialization and our treats!
