PATC Map D/ VA Bus

$26. Long hike: 11 mi., 1800 ft. ascent, 1700 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 8 mi., 1300 ft. ascent, 1200 ft. descent.

Enjoy wildflowers? Dont miss this one! In few metropolitan areas of the world are spring wildflowers more abundant than along the Potomac River in Washington. And they should be on full display in this upstream jaunt along the Potomac Heritage Trail. All hikers start at Gulf Branch, and head upstream along the Potomac Heritage Trail. Long hikers continue on a loop in Scott's Run Nature Preserve, where dramatic views of the Potomac Gorge will compete with the wildflowers. (Note: The route has been modified from the printed schedule.)

Leaders: Brian OKonski [masked]) and Chris Powell

**NOTE: Meetup has disabled the waitlist feature where members can be notified that a spot has opened for a full hike. Check back on the event's page throughout the week to see if spots available and RSVP.**

Reservations: The Capital Hiking Club is a non-profit group, and the public is invited to join on all trips. Early reservations are appreciated! While reservations are accepted Friday, making your reservation prior to Thursday evening helps to ensure your seat on the bus, and prevents the cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups.

If contacting hike leaders during the week of the hike, please place calls prior to 9:30 p.m. As a courtesy to other hikers and to the hike leaders, please cancel as early as possible, so that your reserved spot may be given to someone else.

Cost, what to wear, what to bring: Transportation costs are listed for each hike. Bring sufficient food and water for a day's outing in a day pack or fanny pack with individual First Aid articles, a whistle, and extra clothing according to the season. Sturdy boots or shoes are a necessity. It is recommended to carry 8 oz. of water per mile to be hiked. Gatorade or other electrolyte replacement drinks are also recommended. Bring some cash for post-hike refreshments as well.

Liability: By RSVPing for a CHC hike, you are acknowledging and accepting that hikers are responsible for their own safety and must assume risks and liability for all outings. CHC leaders, officers, and representatives shall not be liable for any injuries, loss or damage to persons or property, direct or consequential, arising out of any trips or Club activities. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver the day of the hike. Hikers are expected to be able to keep a 2 mph pace.
