TRANSPORTATION

CARPOOL LOCATION AND TIME:
Please meet 7:30am at 11th and P St in Downtown Sacramento if you want to carpool and pay driver about $14 in gas money and pinch in for bridge tolls.

DRIVING TIME FROM CARPOOL LOCATION: 1 hour and 45 minutes one way (3 hours and 30 minutes round trip).
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: From 11th and P St in Downtown Sacramento;
1. Head west on P St,
2. Then use the left lane to keep left at the fork and follow signs for US 99,
3. Then keep left at the fork, follow signs for I-80 W/San Francisco,
4. Then keep rigth at the fork, follow signs for I-80 west/San Francisco,
5. Merge onto I-80BUS/US 50 West,
6. I-80BUS/US 50 becomes I-80, continue west on I-80 for 73.1 miles,
7. Keep rigth to stay on I-80 West for 7.8 miles, follow signs for San Francisco (Bridge Tolls),
8. Then keep left and follow signs for San Jose/US 101 South/Airport,
9. Then merge onto US 101 south for 2 miles,
10. Then take Exit 431 for I-280 South toward Daly City and merge onto 280 south,
11. Keep rigth at the fork to continue on CA-1 south, follow signs for Pacifica,
12. Then turn left onto Fassler Ave,
13. Then turn right onto Terra Nova Blvd,
14. Then turn rigth onto Oddstad Blvd,
15. Then finally turn left onto Trout Farm Rd and destination will be on the rigth. The address for San Pedro Valley County Park is; 600 Oddstad Blvd, Pacific, CA 94044.

PAKING AT TRAILHEAD: 6 dollars.

Although dogs are permitted on the top of the Montara Mountain North Peak, but no dogs allowed on the Montara Mountain Trail and San Pedro Valley County Park which are located on the northern slopes of Montara Mountain North Peak, so I recommend you don't bring your dogs. Sorry.

HIKING DESCRIPTION

DIFFICULTY:Intermediate/and advanced.
ELEVATION: 1,800 feet in elevation
change.
HIKING TIME: 4 hrs.
DISTANCE: 7 miles round trip.
HIKING ESSENTIALS: Bring a sweater/windbreaker in case of morning fog, snacks, 2 litters of water, small lunch, sun protection, first aid kit, and hiking gear. Also, check out the essentials from REI on the following link; https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html
HIKING ROUTE: We will start the hike at the Brooks Creek/Montana Mountain Trailhead in San Pedro Valley County Park, then turn rigth and gradually hike uphill on the Montara Mountain Trail on many swicthbacks for 2.5 miles through eucalyptus forest and native lush chaperral(also horses or equestrians use this trail); then turn left onto Montara Mountain Rd (North Peak Access Rd) and continue hiking mostly uphill for 1.1 mile until we reach the peaks to the left; then once at the top of Montara Mountain North Peak, we will have lunch and enjoy the 360 view of the Bay Area's cities, Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, and distant mountain ranges for about 30 minutes; then hike back mostly down the Montara Mountain Rd for 1.1 mile; then turn rigth onto the Montara Mountain Trail and hike back down for 1.1 mile; then turn rigth onto the Brooks Creek Trail, and see if Brooks Creek Falls is still flowing with water as we hike back down the northern slopes of Montara Mountain on the Brooks Creek Trail, which will take us back to the starting for 1.1 mile.
