St. Joseph, MO is, unfortunately, not exempt from the effects of poverty, violence, addiction and other tramatic experiences for our community's children. Many of the experiences our children face cause them to experience grief... whether it is death, divorce, community violence, homelessness, etc. Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting a public event called Helping Our Communitys Children with Trauma & Loss. This event is sponsored by the Mosaic Community Connect Grant and is being offered FREE to the public, however, seating is limited and an RSVP is required. The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 10th at 10am-Noon at the Stoney Creek Inn and Conference Center. The training will be led by Tiffany Miller, Certified Trauma Professional and Mentoring Children Experiencing Trauma Specialist. It is for adults only.
During this training you will:
-Learn how traumatic experiences impact childrens brains.
-Learn how to build resiliency in children that have experienced adversity
-Learn the 5 healing gestures that help children that have experienced trauma
- Learn how to support a grieving child
- Find out how to put what you have learned to practice to begin the positive change in our community.
-Have the opportunity for an open question and answer session
Who Should Attend: Parents, Grandparents, Mentors, Teachers, Professionals that work with children, and community members that care about our community.
This seminar is FREE and open to the public, however, seating is limited and RSVP is required by February 8th.Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
