This will be an overnight trip to Saguaro NP outside of Tucson. We will get an early start Saturday morning and drive to the Miller Creek TH, about an hour southeast of Tucson. The put-in at Miller Creek TH is at 4200'. From there, we will hike to the Happy Valley Saddle CG which is 2000' above our starting point, 5 miles from the TH. After setting up camp, you have the option to summit Rincon Peak as a day hike from camp (FYI, one of my favorite hikes), or just hang out and enjoy this awesome, rarely used NF campground! Each campsite comes furnished with a bear box, fire ring, and there are even very clean bathroom facilities (no running water - but still nice!). Rincon peak is an additional 6.4 miles R/T with 2300' more elevation gain.

Water can be an issue at the CG. Be prepared to haul 2 days of water the first 5 miles to the Happy Valley Camp. Sunday, we will get an early start and return by descending 5 miles back to the vehicles via the same trail. We may stop in the north Tucson area for some well-deserved Mexican food and beverages on the way home, depending on group consensus.

If there is enough interest, I will extend the permit to 12. So feel free to jump on the wait list if the trip is full.

Cost: $10 per person. Keep in mind that from Phoenix, the driving distance is approximately 170 miles each way. Be prepared to offer your driver a minimum of $20 per person for gas/mileage expenses.

For more information and map (see page 8) click here (http://www.nps.gov/sagu/planyourvisit/upload/Saguaro-Wilderness-Modified-for-2015.pdf) to visit the nps.gov page for the Saguaro Wilderness.

Directions to TH: I-10 from Tucson east to J-Six/Mescal road exit. Take a left and head north. The Miller Creek trailhead is about 16.5 miles down the road, after a very short, signed spur road breaks off to your left. This road can be rough, but should be fine for passenger vehicles.
