Happy February!! Spring is coming!!! While we wait for the world to wake up let's enjoy Minnewaska in all it's beautiful winter glory. We will most likely do the lovely Mossy Brook hike which is open to hikers if there is snow on the carriage paths so no hiking on those. If there isn't snow we will do Gertrude's Nose but I think the chance of that is pretty remote. I will post which parking lot to meet at, most likely it will be the Awosting lot.

If we do Mossy Brook it is a 4-5 mile hike. If we do Gertrude's Nose it is roughly 8 miles.

There is a $10 fee for parking at Minnewaska. If you'd like to carpool in an Empire Pass car (free), meet at the big lot across from the Mountain Brauhaus restaurant at the intersection of 299 and 44/55.

Sorry, no beginners unless you've hiked with me and you are properly prepared. Winter hikes are more strenuous than regular hikes and this is strenuous to begin with. Spikes mandatory. If you are not properly prepared for the weather I will ask you to find a different activity for your day.

We will most likely dine afterwards. :-) Properly prepared dogs welcome.

Bring: WATER, snacks, basic first aid supplies, and your camera....... :-) Hiking boots mandatory. You may want 2 pairs of gloves, one light and one heavier. Hat, scarf, long johns, NO COTTON AT ALL....dress warmly as you will be exposed and if it's windy you will appreciate layers. If it's snowy or really cold you will want snowpants and insulated boots that you can put your spikes on. You may also want to bring hot tea in a thermos. Yum!!!

Due to the winter season, NO COTTON. Wet cotton can cause hypothermia. Choose synthetic fabrics, fleece, wool, and you may want to bring extra layers just in case. Spikes mandatory if there is snow or ice. You will need them for winter hikes with me for both ice and snow. Kahtoola Micro Spikes, no Yaktrax. They are the studded snows for your boots. I will need to see them in the parking lot. They are around $70 and worth every penny. Here is a link, you might find them elsewhere cheaper but this is what they look like. Do not get the Nano spikes. https://kahtoola.com/product/microspikes/ ( https://kahtoola.com/product/microspikes/ )

$2 Meetup fee. New friends, please send me your cell, I'll return with mine. If you sign up and cannot make it PLEASE change your RSVP. If weather looks to be a concern I will post changes the night before or before 7am on hike day. Please check back for updates!!!

ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. By signing up for or attending this event, you certify that you have read, understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the Orange County Outdoor Singles Liability Waiver (See "Liability Waiver" under the "Pages" tab above).

Cheers and Happy Trails until we meet!!!!
