We meet on Wednesdays starting at 7:00 p.m. Our meetings generally last 1 - 1.5 hours depending upon the length of our discussion. Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation 1025 Mt. Vernon Highway, NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30327. Our Meetings are held in the Chalice House - the building to the left of the main church building. (See below for more detailed info on driving directions.)

Our weekly meetings include a group sitting meditation starting at 7 p.m. (it's fine to come on in if you're a bit late). Following our meditation we will listen to a recorded dharma talk and have a discussion. All are welcome to our meetings. Our group is comprised of members with varying degrees of experience. More experienced meditators are available to provide instructions and we also have handouts available. For those who would like to sit on the floor, we have cushions, mats and benches on hand.

We do not charge admission. In the spirit of dana (the Buddhist concept of generosity) a basket is placed on a table and members may donate to defray the cost of space rental for our meetings. Donations are welcome, but never expected. What is Insight Meditation? Insight meditation (vipassana in Pali, the language of the original Buddhist teachings) is the simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment mindfulness. Through careful and sustained observation, we experience for ourselves the ever-changing flow of the mind/body process. This awareness leads us to accept more fully the pleasure and pain, fear and joy, sadness and happiness that life inevitably brings. As insight deepens, we develop greater equanimity and peace in the face of change, and wisdom and compassion increasingly become the guiding principles of our lives. The Buddha first taught insight meditation over 2,500 years ago. The various methods of this practice have been well preserved in the Theravada tradition of Buddhism.
