The Eastern Grand Canyon and Palisades area are a fantastic region of Grand Canyon National Park where, in the northern section, the Little Colorado River empties into the Colorado. On this 4 day, 3 night backpack we will enter at Lipan Point and hike down to the river where we will spend 3 nights: two nights near Tanner Rapids, and one night near Lava Canyon Rapids and Palisades Creek. We will retrace out steps and exit on the Tanner Trail up to Lipan Point.
Looking west from the Beamer Trail on my last backpack there, Nov. 2009.
I have received a difficult to obtain permit from the national park which I prepaid the fees for. This backpack is limited to 6 experienced hikers. There will be a $75.00 fee to participate. The fee must be paid in advance of the RSVP listing.
Backpack Rating: Strenuous; The Tanner and Beamer Trails are both unmaintained trails and rated as difficult and demanding by the national park.
Length: 25 miles
Elevation Gain/Loss: 4,650 feet
